Please vote!

My cousin Anya Sitaram (a BBC World newsreader and documentary producer), and her husband Richard Wilson (environmental journalist and Antarctica reporter) had made a documentary called Being Indian which was shown on BBC World earlier this year.

It is now at second place in the contest for the best BBC documentary of the year 2006.

Today's The Statesman carries an article about Anya and Richard's documentaries.

A vote from you could help this win! Deadline 4 December. Here’s the link.

Click “vote” on Being Indian, and then “Submit”.

Thank you!

But dear Rama, are you suggesting that those who have not seen the documentaries should cast their votes? Is this ethical?

Yes Yves, as the docu is not available to view on-line, I'm engaged in a simple political mobilising act to vote on my urging! Unethical perhaps, but loyal alright! But hey, what about voters in so-called democracies? Would the power-wielders really want them all to vote on the basis of a sound understanding of issues???!!! Best, rama

Thanks Richard & Rama. I'm part way through watching it already. My vote is on its way, methinks! Thanks for that link. Wonderful glimpse into Indian life, excellent production.

Rama,

I think the link to The Statesman article may be incorrect. I did a search and came up with this:

Hi Feroze, thanks for this feedback. I guess Statesman changed the link the day after the story appeared! Best, rama

How the mind works...
My first reaction to your call to vote was "Can I vote for a film I haven't seen", but then decided (before checking the comments) "what the heck, it's about India, it's from the BBC, it's related to Rama, I'll vote for it". It remains interesting to wonder what kind of mental mechanism exactly underlies the decision making process, but I guess it has a lot to do with loyalty. I met Rama over a common interest in Lewis Mumford, and that created a very strong positive connection between us. I guess it's not so much about how the mind works, but about how our consciousness works, led by the conviction that we must do all in our power to make the good come to the surface.
So I will now vote, then watch the documentary.
Best regards,
Jan
